The 50 Lb Bag and the Dog Story

The 50 Pound Bag and the Dog Story

A friend of mine from college was selling educational books door to door in North Dakota one summer. It was a grueling job where he had to carry about 50 pounds worth of books around in a backpack going door to door to door to door. When he came back he told me this story that happened to one of the guys he worked with. Apparently, in the neighborhood this guy was working in, there was this certain dog that was particularly annoying. It was chained up to its dog house in its yard and every time this guy would pass by the dog would bark and charge at him until, "Ort!", it reached the end of its chain and got jerked back. One day this guy just decided to mess with the dog, so he stood just out of reach of the chain and began to make faces and noises at the dog. The dog charged at him again and again barking and continuously getting yanked back by his chain, until one time, "Snap!" the chain broke. Well, this fellow started running as fast as he could but he could hear that the dog was gaining fast on him. He knew there was no way that he was going to outrun this dog, especially with this 50 pound bag of books on his shoulders. So right when the dog was at his heels he grabbed his backpack, spun around and hit the dog squarely with the bag of books. The dog went flying through the air and hit the ground .... dead. The owners of the house came out yelling, "Ahh! We saw what you did! You were taunting our dog and then you killed him! We saw it all! We're calling the police!" The guy just stood there. He was busted, what could he do? What could he say? He felt terrible. The cops came and put him in the back of the police car and they drove off. Much to his surprise, however, as soon as they turned the corner, the cops pulled over to the side of the road and one of them got out and opened his door. He looked at the cop in confusion. The officer looked at him and said, "We hated that dog anyway, you can go." To my knowledge, this is a true story.
